Tess tells Decker

Tess's eyes widened in surprise as Decker gazed at her with a curious expression. "Substation romances?" he repeated, his voice low. Tess felt a flush rise to her cheeks as she realized how much she had given away. She had mentioned fanfiction about substation romances to her friends online, and now it seemed that Decker was aware of her guilty pleasure. "Uh, yeah," Tess said quickly, trying to play it cool. "I just like... alternate universe stories. You know, where the substation is a character in its own right." Decker raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "A substation romance fanfiction writer?" he repeated, his voice dripping with amusement. Tess's face grew hot as she realized that Decker was teasing her. She tried to maintain a straight face, but it was no use. "Hey, don't mock me!" she said, laughing. "Substation romances are a unique and wonderful genre." Decker chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I wouldn't dare," he said, his voice full of amusement. "But I have to ask...which is your favorite ship?" Tess's jaw dropped as Decker asked about her fanfiction preferences. She hadn't expected him to be so into it. But then again, she had been around him for a while now, and she knew that he was different from other people. "I'm really into the ' Transformer Boy and Reactor Girl' ship," Tess said, trying to sound nonchalant. Decker's eyes widened in surprise as he repeated the names. "That's a classic!" he exclaimed. "I've heard of it online." Tess felt a surge of excitement as she realized that Decker shared her passion for substation romances. Maybe this whole mystery thing was going to be more fun than she had thought. "So, do you think the Phoenix message has anything to do with...you know?" Tess asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Decker's expression turned serious, his eyes locked onto hers. "I don't know what it means yet," he said slowly. "But I'm willing to find out if it means uncovering a romantic substation adventure."
