Decker has a surprise
Go backward a step
Tess's eyes widened in surprise as Decker's expression turned serious. "You know, Tess," he said, his voice low and conspiratorial, "I have a secret."
Tess's curiosity was piqued. "What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Decker leaned in closer, a mischievous glint in his eye. "I'm the author of substation romances," he said, his voice dripping with pride.
Tess's jaw dropped as she stared at Decker in shock. "What?!" she exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise.
Decker chuckled, clearly enjoying Tess's reaction. "I know it's not what you expected," he said, his voice sheepish. "But I've always been passionate about writing these stories. And now that we're solving mysteries together, I thought maybe I could use my skills to help us uncover some clues."
Tess couldn't believe what she was hearing. Decker, the stoic and serious detective, was also a fanfiction author? She had to ask.
"So... how did you get into this?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
Decker shrugged, his expression sheepish. "I don't know. I just started writing these stories when I was in college. They were always my happy place. And now that I'm older, I thought maybe it was time to try and get them published."
Tess's eyes lit up with excitement. "You have to show me your work!" she exclaimed.
Decker smiled, pulling out a small notebook from his pocket. "I've got a few chapters written up," he said, flipping through the pages. "Want to take a look?"
As Tess scanned the pages, her eyes widened in amazement. The writing was witty and engaging, with complex characters and intricate plots.
"This is amazing!" she exclaimed, her voice full of enthusiasm. "You're a genius!"
Decker chuckled, his face lighting up with pleasure. "Thanks," he said, his voice sincere. "I've always loved writing these stories. Maybe now that we have more time to solve mysteries together, I can try and get them published."
Tess's mind was racing as she thought about the possibilities. Decker, the substation romance author, was on a mission to publish his work. And with Tess by his side, he might just succeed.
"Okay," she said, her voice firm. "We'll do it. We'll get your stories published and make them a bestseller."
Decker grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Thanks, Tess. I couldn't have done it without you."
