Rejection Letter

Go backward a step

Tess sat at her desk, staring at the blank paper in front of her. She had been putting off writing this rejection letter for hours, but knew it was inevitable. With a deep sigh, she picked up her pen and began to write. Her hand moved slowly as she acknowledged the author's work and expressed gratitude for their trust. But as she wrote, Tess couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment and regret. This manuscript had been so bold, so daring, so unique - what was wrong with it? With a steady hand, Tess finished writing the letter, each word a gentle but firm blow to the author's hopes and dreams. She felt a sense of relief as she finished, knowing it was done. But as she looked at the words on the page, she wondered if she had been too harsh. But that is why she handwrote rejection letters -- to give them a personal touch. Tess knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that the world was not ready for a substation romance. There seemed to be a market consisting of one individual purchaser. Tess suspected that in fact the same person could be both the only author and the only buyer. Tess aigned the letters and slid the pen into its holder. With one final glance, she sealed the letter in an envelope, ready to mail it. Maybe she should get a coffee from downstairs, she thought. Tess avoided the coffee maker in the upstairs office, ever since the new CEO took over the business. She disliked the old CEO, and heard rumors that the son was coming to take over the business. She knew she would like him even less, sight unseen.

Does Tess go downstairs for coffee?

Or get some coffee from the coffee maker in the executive offices?
