As Tess spoke the words, she felt a flutter in her chest that had nothing to do with enthusiasm for coffee. It was as if her body was betraying her, responding to Decker's presence in ways she couldn't quite explain. She cleared her throat, trying to play it cool, but her voice came out in a slightly breathy tone. "I mean, if you'd like," she added quickly, feeling a flush rise to her cheeks. Decker raised an eyebrow, his smile growing wider as he seemed to sense her nervousness. "I think I would very much like that," he said, his voice low and soothing, "but that is a bit too much. Do you not think so?" Then Decker looked pointedly at the coffee cups in their hands. He looked at her, lips turned into a cruel smirk, and began walking away.
