The agreement

Go backward a step

As Decker finished explaining, Tess hesitated for a moment, weighing her options. She could see the desperation in his eyes, and it tugged at her heartstrings. But she also knew that she wasn't just playing a role - she was getting pulled into Decker's complicated web of family expectations and personal desires. After all her personal desires have nothing to do with it. "Okay, deal," Tess said finally, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I'll pretend to be your fiancée for tonight. But one thing: I get to use my real name. No more 'Lavender' nonsense." Decker's face lit up with relief and gratitude, and he grinned from ear to ear. Tess knew that this broody mysterious man who was a total stranger a few minutes ago, rarely smiled and kept his emotions locked away. She somehow could feel that she was the only person who could bring out this side of him. "Deal!" he exclaimed, holding out his hand for Tess to shake. "I promise you, it'll be worth it. My mom will be thrilled, and we can just have one night of fun together." Tess raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Decker's enthusiasm. But as she took his hand, she couldn't help but wonder what other surprises the night might hold. "Alright," Tess said, smiling slyly. "But don't expect me to go all mushy on you just because we're pretending to be a couple. I'm still got my own agenda here." Decker chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I wouldn't have it any other way," he said, leaning in close. "Shall we get ready for our night out? We've got a gala to attend and some fake romance to pretend to."
