Tes Gets a Call
Go backward a step
Tess's eyes lingered on the manuscript in front of her, the words blurring together as she reached for the receiver on her desk. "Billionaire Family Publishing House Editing Services," she answered, her voice crisp and professional.
On the other end of the line was Detective James, his voice low and urgent. "Ms. Tess, I need your help with a case."
Tess's curiosity piqued, she sat up straighter in her chair. "Of course, Detective. What can I do to assist?"
There was a pause, followed by a hesitant tone. "I know it sounds strange, but... I need you to take a look at a manuscript. It's not fiction, exactly. More like... a true crime story."
Tess raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. "What makes this manuscript so special, Detective?"
"It's about the murder of a young author," James replied. "The victim was supposed to be writing a novel, but the police found evidence that suggests it might have been more than just a coincidence. The killer left behind a cryptic message, something like... 'the truth is in the words.'"
Tess's mind began racing with possibilities. She had always believed that stories held secrets and surprises, and now it seemed that she was about to uncover one of her own. "I'm on my way," she said, already setting aside her manuscript to grab her bag.
As she hung up the phone, a shiver ran down Tess's spine. Little did she know that this case would lead her into a world of twists and turns, where the line between fiction and reality was about to become very blurred indeed.
